What would your reaction be is you received a call such as this:

'Mr. Advisor, my name is X and I am a register rep in your town. The reason I'm calling is to ask for a few minutes so I can introduce myself and learn about your business. My goal is to find out if you or anybody you know is looking for an advisor to help grown your business?

....

That's pretty much what I would like to do -- just to see what kind of opportunities are out there. Maybe there's a guy with $100 million who needs some help with the bottom of his book where I could help him with those clients while adding to the business's AUM with my own efforts. Maybe there is a team that needs someone to manage their 401k business. Would like to find out. Not ready to go independant by a long shot. Been doing this four years but still have a lot to learn.

Thanks.

Tons of people would be open to this, but they are going to pay you(other than what comm or fees you earn) and be careful that is the relationship doesn't work out that you can take your assets with you..

Most advisors only want someone who will prospect for them(because that is what most advisors hate).
