Highland Capital Management, the Dallas-based investment management firm with $19.5 billion in assets under management, said Monday that Carla Martin would join the firm as the new managing director of national accounts for the independent broker/dealer channel.
Martin will work with Jennifer Ricci to expand sales of Highlands alternative investments – through both mutual funds and non-traded assets – in emerging markets, long/short equities and natural resources.
“Highland was very attractive to me as a company that has committed both the time and personnel to building its sales efforts in the independent broker dealer channel,” Martin said in a statement.
Prior to Highland, Martin was the senior vice president of business development in the IBD channel at W.P. Carey, a global net-lease REIT with about $8.2 billion AUM in addition to its own real estate portfolio. Martin as 18 years of experience in sales and has spent 12 years in the financial services industry. She will report to Brad Ross, the president of Highland Funds.

In addition to IBDs, Highland’s clients also include public pension plans, foundations, endowments, corporations, financial institutions, fund of funds, governments, and high net-worth individuals.
