I've received an offer I can't refuse to sell a current book, which I don't mind due to a minor geographic move that might make some of the relationships impractical to maintain in the same way. Also, to be honest, I'm looking to move in a different direction anyway after 8 years as an advisor, and am interested in a wholesaler position as the next step. Here's my brief overview:

7, 66, Insurance and CFP, no U4 dings.

Once we complete the transaction, how would I go about getting an external wholesaler job beyond passively responding to job posts? I feel a bit out of the loop, having run my own shop and not even maintaining a resume for years! Any advice on a recruiter that may be good to talk to? Thanks in advance for information.

As an External Wholesaler with 17 years experience, it’s an extremely hard market right now. They are tons of top Wholesalers looking. I know, I’m looking for a better position. I’m actually thinking of becoming a fee-based advisor. You at least have some ownership and you can have some flexibility if you organize it that way at the start. As an External Wholesaler, if you do well they cut your region and one person can end your career at a firm. I want to have more control over my career. With a book, you can always move to another firm.
