Some Disadvantages of Edward Jones

Here's to HOPEing that Obama does not get re-elected!
BTW, I don't think they changed the Sunset percentages. I think what the Hulkster means for all you little Hulksters out there Brother, is that the revenue split of the 40% payout shifts gradually from the vet's favor to the rookie's favor. And if something happens to the lucky SOB, I mean new replacing FA, then they will simply shitcan that guy and slide in a newer dumber warm body to keep the plan going.

My solution is four more years of Obama.

American..I have lost all respect for you. I 'hope' you are kidding...
Donedrinking, you mean you're not a fan of bureaucratic socialism and the downward trajectory of our country? On second thought, I'm not either.
At Edward Jones, you have no personal brand - you're just a guy in a green shirt in a green office with a green Edward Jones sign.
From what I have heard, most veterans that Sunset their office get the new guy in (usually they have to already be with Jones and have 3 years experience - not be a newbie), and then they pretty quickly phase out of the office. Although the plan "formally" states that the veteran should work hours that are proportionate to their revenue split, most end up transitioning for several months, and then jsut check in periodically to keep tabs on the office.
Not a bad deal if you don't want the hassle/pressure of selling a book, but generally not as lucrative as selling it.
B24, not really. Predominantly, they are rookies from the Pass program, code for home office geeks hanging around waiting for a big office to open up. Usually a good asskisser to a gp.
I was with Jones for three years. Excellent training and, in my opinion, a great place to learn the business. I left after three years because my BOA was still making more money than I was on a regular basis. In my first six months as an independent I made $151,000 and finished the year at just over $200k. I haven't looked back. I would never discourage anyone from joining Jones but long term, the path of an independent advisor is much more profitable.

It stinks in here...
@JohnEJ
Then why don't you leave Edward Jones as well. No one should have to pay those high overhead cost to stay in a stinky office...

Here's a story on Jones today in the Wall Street Journal.

Now that is funny…I thought “1,000 lives” was how many you have to touch via door knocking.
There's one big advantage you don't see advertise much. Every Jones office I've ever seen is no more than five minutes' walk to a Subway. Sometimes two of them.
So, if you really like Subway . . . .
American flag is dead on.... Hire new people or if you can't find anyone who is dumb enough to take the job then hire the people back who didn't make it the first or second time..... Oh yeah then have their dad call every broker in town and ask for assets for the poor lazy F-ck... who refuses to go door knock... oh yeah it would be good for all to give up some of my assets....... All they can rely on is the pass program. Pay the college kids more to come into home office for a year then when someone leaves put them on a plane. They have a whole army of pass kids down in St. Louis just waiting to take over your office.... oh yeah jones's office...

American.... Wow, that was really DEAD on. Thanks for sharing your experience. As a former Kool-Aid drinker I get the pros but am most in line with the cons!
I haven't been this inspired to work as hard as I have for the past 7 years while I was with the GREEN MACHINE or EMPIRE.. Being Independent is as great as we drones could ever have imagined.
Thanks for sharing!
Sure sounds like a lot of bitter Bob’s here. Every firm has its issues and being independent doesn’t mean the job isrestore easier. I’m wondering if following guidelines isn’t your thing?
