Where do failed brokers do?

I’ve used wholesalers to close annuity business…they went on the
appt with me and basically sealed the deal. Being a newbie I find
some of the intricacies of annuties to be quite daunting, so without
them to explain it to the client I prolly would’ve been sunk.
It's like my dad used to say....
If you can't be an athlete, you can at least be an athletic supporter!
But seriously, maybe try the Sales Assistant position, you may find you are better at the "organization" part than the "selling" part.

Ok so maybe I shouldn't have used the word "daunting", but they can
get semi-complicated for someone who has never sold or bought one
before. I've been in production a whole 4 months; give me a
break.
This has got to be the easiest thread to answere I have every seen.
When brokers fail they always go to a Credit Union or bank. Don't believe me, look at the stats. Maybe a failed broker might end up at a discount brokerage firm, but typically failure is followed by an offer from the local bank.
I used to work for a financial news company and I saw a lot of "failed" brokers working there.
I guess that Reuters, Bloomberg, Thomson, and Dow Jones are logical places to go if things don't work out.

Not for someone who might not be a right fit for "sales" personality. I've been very happy as an SA, but am ready to become licensed and begin building my own practice.
There are worse jobs to have..."welcome to mcdonald's drive through, may I take your order?"

id rather work at McDs then be an SA. pay is about the same and you get better perks at McDs like free fries
I'm not sure what the wages are where you are at, but I've never had any complaints. I dunno, I guess it depends on WHO you are working for..and what b/d you are working WITH.
I've heard horror stories, but like I said I've been happy. Some personalities are better suited to serve, rather than to "make the kill" so to speak.
I've been purusing through this forum. And with the high attrition rate in this business, what do unsuccessful brokers tend to do?
What is typically the "exit" jobs that most brokers/FAs take when they find they don't have what it takes to bring in the business? What is their "PLAN-B"? Or if you're a rookie, what is your Plan-B?
Many brokers fail at two or three firms before calling it quits. When you find out that you don't have what it takes you are usually in financial ruins. A good thing to do is to use your skillset to get a non-sales job, or if you don't have a marketable skillset, get one. You will be "So Relieved" to not have to wake up and make another sale or get another appointment or meet the month's sales quota.

That is true. The firm I worked at straight out of college, there were registered Sales Assitants working for HUGE producers making around $120,000. Granted, most of their pay was from the broker, but still...

You could become a compliance officer.
I was always amazed at how many of them offer up the information of 'I used to be with Merrill- or I was in your shoes, etc.
I guess those that can, do
Those that can't supervise in some places.

This is true! In our area there is a woman who worked as a sales assistant. She wanted to be a broker and approached her branch manager who gave her the full battery of tests. Bad news, the tests showed that the firm would be wasting its money to train her, as she didn't have what it takes to succeed. Not to be denied the woman sued her employer for discrimination and ended up in the training program. She promptly flunked out, not lasting six months. She moved to another large firm where she lasted only months. Finally, she moved to a regional as a compliance officer. Brokers at this firm have told many stories of what a ball buster she is. On top of that she's border line incompetent, which comes as no surprise because she was borderline incompetent as a sales assistant.

I detect an unhealthy fear of women. Did your mother abuse you.
THIS business is dominated by men. There are 10 male idiots in management for every woman out there.
Used to hate the prizes/trinkets offered up for PM Promo, recruiting contests and the like at Jones.
Baseball memorabilia, sports tickets, golf shirts (size L or larger), money clips, ties -n- tie tacks, golf balls/accesories etc.
Often would wonder what kind of outcry would be heard if prizes were distinctly female...hair barrettes, skirts, finger nail polish, scented lotion, purses, bracelets etc.
