Obtaining CFP

What would you say in my situation...
I am working as a manager's assistant right now with the plan of going into production is roughly a year. This is clear between me and the BM.
I am about to start studying for the 7 and 66. I figure that will run me about 2 months.
After that, I thought about doing the CFP course. I am wanting to gain understanding and insights, so when I go into production, I will hit the ground running...
So, I guess I could do the course, but after taking the test (1-1.5 years of studying) I would have been in the industry for 1-1.5 years and about to start the wirehouse fa program. So, I would not technically get the designation for another 1.5 years, but I would have that waiting...
Is this a good idea? Right now, I have plenty of free time, as I am an assistant!

With the 3 years required work experience, can you still begin studying for the CFP and taking the tests, knowing that after three years you will meet the work reqirement?

Yes you can begin the CFP before 3-years. I’m a ML POA in my first three months of training. I’ll be ½ way though the CFP classes next week and I will be sitting for the exam in March. I’m taking the accelerated Ken Zahn courses and I’m very happy with them. As a newbie you should find the material covered in the classes useful. While I may not be able to put the CFP logo on my business card until obtaining the 3-year requirement, I will be able to let prospects know that I met all the education and exam requirements for the CFP.

What would I say in your situation? I'd say "I'm a secretary! Look at me...I'm a secretary!" Then, I'd follow with "I'm certified to sell a service that nobody wants to pay for!!!"
WealthManager,
I like your approach. If my BM would let me, I would do the same thing. I will probably begin studying for the CFP after 18 months in production.
Boomer - If your BM will let you, I would do the same thing that WealthManager is doing.
The CFP material is a lot easier to understand if you have been in the business for a couple of years. I didn’t study that much and passed on my first try of course I have read a mountain of related material for fun
