Jason, Morgan/Wells/UBS/Merryll are all going to be about the same.... You keep 40 percent of what you produce and you must meet hurdles to survive. Any way you slice it, you need to be doing at least 150,000 production after 3 years to make it. Your salary dries up quick and there is no training really. Many will say join a team.

I raised 30mm in my first 3 years, and if your willing to put in the work, I am willing to share ideas with anyone interested. I love to coach/teach.

Hey, Jason. MS has Tier 1 (best), Tier 2 (average), and DNM. $10M a year is the benchmark for Tier 1. You start out at 25% but graduate to 40 once your production has covered your salary. You have 3 months of pre-production ramp-up time before your hurdles start, and you don’t get commission at all on the months that you don’t hit your hurdles. Personally, I had a hard time starting out, but had a generous branch manager who gave me ample time to start hitting my hurdles. On the other hand, it was a very political environment being a legacy Smith Barney office. I’m happy to give you my perspective on the postives and negatives if you’ll drop me an IM.

I have Kaplan Series 7 Q-Bank available for sale for 1/2 of what I paid, it helped me alot pass the 7 and I'm studying for the 66 now. Which you will need to pass both at MS on your first attempt.

Whereever you choose, in the wirehouse world, it will be about 55 / 45 with the firm getting more. Understand to look past the negativity of FAILING advisors who have lost the fire and fuel to prospect - go out there, get in front of money, pick up the phone, and build a great business. My advice:

Talk to managers and express how excited you are about prospecting, selling... Prospecting prospecting prospecting!!!! I can teach you to do seminar campaings, cold call, and bring in more assets than you can imagine. There is so much opportunity out there becasue the older advisors are complacent!!! And only 15% of new guys make it.

Most advisors lose the ability to consistently prospect. And young guys flame out early because they don't.

I am 4 years into the business as an FA and have raised 40million and built a book that generates 400k in production.

This is the only business where you can be your own boss and create your own busienss WITHOUT HAVING TO PUT YOUR OWN CAPITAL TO RISK.

All you have to do is learn how to prospect effectively, and SELL the value that you provide to clients.

If your interested in learning more about growing and how I did it, I share insights and guides and techniques at my website Use promo code "godfathers" for 10% of my Cold Calling Guide

GO TO MY WEBSITE FOR EVERYTHING YOU NEED.... www.thefacoach.com/product/coldcalling. Good Luck!

how much would an advisor in tier 2 at the end of one of the wirehouse programs take home pre-tax?

Everyone first, thank you all for the replies. I didnt see anything back in Jan. so i jumped off for awhile. But i did not want to leave this post un-updated or anything and will be doing individual replies today. To give an idea of the process for me atm, floating offer at MS, the hiring groups in my area have been full, should be in hopefully this or next year. While waiting i applied to Merrill and EDJ, and am doing interviews with both. MS would be my ideal place but looking at best offer.
