Carsten Hoffmann

Carsten Hoffmann is a shareholder and Managing Director of FMV Opinions, serving in the firm's Irvine, California, office. He manages FMV's national valuation group, as well as the operations of the Irvine office.
With well over two decades of experience in all aspects of valuation, Mr. Hoffmann is a recognized expert in determining discounts for lack of control and lack of marketability for fractional interests in real property and for interests in business entities which hold real property, marketable securities, and other traditional and non-traditional assets. He is equally recognized for his expertise in determining the valuation impact of holding investment assets inside a C corporation, as well as for valuing non-voting securities, preferred stock, debt instruments, and other non-traditional business interests. Mr. Hoffmann has performed valuations involving a broad range of property types and operating businesses, for purposes that include estate taxes, gift taxes, income taxes, litigation support. He has also testified in court as an expert witness on numerous occasions regarding a variety of valuation issues.
Mr. Hoffmann has authored a number of articles on a variety of valuation-related topics, including valuation issues that result from Tax Court decisions. He also frequently shares his knowledge and expertise in presentations to law and accounting firms, as well as other related professional groups.
Prior to joining FMV, Mr. Hoffmann was the Chief Financial Officer and Directing Manager of a healthcare company based in Stuttgart, Germany.
Mr. Hoffmann received his Master's degree in Business Administration and his Bachelor of Arts degree in German and English from the University of California, Irvine. Mr. Hoffmann is a Senior Appraiser of the American Society of Appraisers and a Trust and Estate Practitioner. He holds active memberships in Young Presidents' Organization and the Orange County Estate Planning Council. Mr. Hoffmann is a Series 63 and 79 Registered Securities Representative.
