My guess is that The Who made it to the show for one reason: CSI. All three CSI theme songs are Who songs - Won’t Get Fooled Again - CSI: Miami, Baba O’Riley (Teenage Wasteland) - CSI:NY, and Who Are You - CSI. There can’t possibly be any reason at all that they would make it to that big of a stage at this point in their career other than they have a deal with CBS. I didn’t catch all of the show, but I did hear enough of Pinball Wizard to know that I need to just keep listening to them on my iPod.
It was horrible. It was the worst SuperBowl half-time show I ever saw.

Its universal message crosses all boundaries and instills one with the hope that it’s not too late to better ourselves. Since it’s impossible in this world we live in to empathize with others, we can always empathize with ourselves. It’s an important message, crucial really. And it’s beautifully stated on the album.

Look, I've listened to the Beatles. Really listened to them. I don't feel the music. I'm more of a classical guy anyway. THAT is music you can feel. Fur Elise, done correctly, is a little piece of heaven.
The crap peddled in the latter half of the 20th century is just garbage. Maybe the Beatles have a few good songs, but they are extremely overrated. Again, my opinion. And it is possible that I wasn't born at the right time to "appreciate" it. But damn.
Oh, and “I want to hold your hand” is the dumbest song they wrote.
