MarketCounsel, the business and regulatory compliance consultancy for independent advisors, has hired Paul Lally, a partner at Wipfli, a consulting firm with specialties in wealth and asset management, as head of business solutions. Lally, who will join the firm in January, announced the news from the stage at The MarketCounsel Summit in Las Vegas on Wednesday morning.
Lally said he decided to retire from his role at Wipfli after over 30 years in the industry, but discussions with MarketCounsel convinced him not to.
MarketCounsel has been building out a suite of products and services to help RIAs throughout a firm's lifecycle. In the newly created role, Lally will be responsible for helping RIA clients meaningfully engage with those products and services. He’ll also identify gaps in the suite and work on innovating on those products.
At Wipfli, he led the team serving the wealth and asset management industry and was with the firm for about seven years. Prior to that, he co-founded Gladstone Associates, an M&A advisory firm, alongside Dan Kreuter.
MarketCounsel and The Hamburger Law Firm have been filling out their executive teams over the last several months. About a month ago, the firm added Kristen Benadom, former head of legal at Nitrogen, as general counsel of The Hamburger Law Firm.
In May, MarketCounsel hired Anthony Stich, former chief revenue officer at digital custodian Entrustody, as executive managing director. Stich now handles a lot of the firm’s operations, business development, relationship management and events, so CEO and President Brian Hamburger can spend more time working with RIA clients and on the firm’s programs.
Scott Coleman, a 20-year veteran at Schwab, also joined this year as director of business development for MarketCounsel and The Hamburger Law Firm. Coleman, who previously led a team of business development officers at Schwab’s RIA custodian, is responsible for the day-to-day business development.
Nitesh Verma, who most recently headed enterprise and partnerships at Snappy Kraken, also joined the firm in May as director of partnerships.
