Ryan Detrick, who has served as LPL Financial’s chief market strategist for the past two years, has left the company for a role at another organization. Detrick declined to provide specifics but said he starts the new position in a couple weeks.

Detrick spent the last 6 1/2 years serving on LPL’s investment research team. Prior to becoming chief market strategist, he served as senior market strategist under Chief Investment Strategist John Lynch, now CIO at Comerica Bank Wealth Management. He was recruited to LPL by Burt White, former chief investment officer, who joined Carson Group as managing partner and chief strategy officer, in April.

In a LinkedIn post, Detrick said he was stepping down as LPL’s research team becomes more institutional.

“This is the right move for LPL, but doesn't fit my brand,” Detrick wrote. “If you've ever seen me present, dress up silly for a video, or tell a stupid joke on my podcast, I'm just not meant to be institutional. They've hired some great employees lately that fit this direction and I can't wait to see the department continue to grow. I'll be cheering for them (plus I own some shares so they better keep growing!)”

Detrick helped LPL launch one of the first podcasts in the broker/dealer space—Market Signals—which has had nearly 1 million downloads. He also helped manage LPL’s Technical Equity model portfolio, with Technical Market Strategist Scott Brown.
