Brad Zigler, who penned our story about 130/30 funds on page 51, has been both the observed and the observer on Wall Street and LaSalle Avenue. Managing editor of Hard Assets Investor (www.HardAssetsInvesor.com), he was a regular media presence while heading up marketing, research and education for the Pacific Exchange's (now NYSE Arca) option market and the iShares complex of exchange traded funds.

Brad switched to observer status when he started writing for Registered Rep., Ticker, Mutual Fund, Futures, Financial Planning and Financial Advisor magazines, as well as Institutional Investor Journals. A morbid fear of idleness prompted him to also serve as a financial correspondent for the European Press Network and National Public Radio.

Matt Oechsli, high-net-worth guru extraordinaire, is the man behind Rep.'s “Inner Game” column, this month on page 86. For the past 30 years, Matt has served as the President of The Oechsli Institute (oechsli.com), which coaches and coaxes advisors into getting the most out of their practices. The Oechsli Institute's research has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Forbes, and other media outlets, and Matt has authored eleven books on the financial advice business, including his most recent, Elite Financial Teams. Matt holds an MBA in marketing from Anna Maria College in Paxton, MA, and a BS from the University of Arizona. He lives in Greensboro, N.C. He is Registered Rep.'s longest running columnist, at 18 years and counting.

Long-time Registered Rep. columnist Kevin McKinley wrote both his regular column this month as well as a story about borrowing from one's 401(k) for the Retirement Special Package on page 37. The owner of McKinley Money LLC, an independent registered investment advisor, he is also the author of the book Make Your Kid a Millionaire (Simon & Schuster), and provides speaking and consulting services on family financial-planning topics. You can reach him at [email protected]

Kevin began working at a broker/dealer when he was 17. He worked there for 20 years before leaving to start his own RIA. He serves on the Wisconsin Governor's Council on Financial Literacy, writes a weekly newspaper column, hosts a weekly show on Wisconsin Public Radio and speaks to audiences of both advisors and investors on family financial-planning topics.

Charles Paikert, Registered Rep.'s new managing editor, has been covering wealth management and family offices for the past six years, most recently as editor of Family Wealth Report and before that as a reporter at Investment News.

He has also covered the entertainment business for Variety, the television business for Multichannel News and Wall Street for Investment Dealer's Digest. Charles has written about sports, politics, travel and the arts for publications and web sites including The New York Times, Sports Illustrated, MSNBC.com, The Nation and The Village Voice. He is a co-author of Variety's History of Show Business.

His favorite freelance job was writing the text for the history of professional basketball exhibit at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass. A native of Syracuse, N.Y., Charles now lives in South Orange, N.J., with his wife, Bernice Napach, a producer for Bloomberg TV, and daughter Anna, a sophomore at Hamilton College.
