Yankee slugger Alex Rodriguez hit a home run for his favorite charity, the Children's Aid Society, but he didn't do it on the field.
According to a report in the New York Post, A-Rod used $50,000 in seed money given to him by Trader Monthly, picked a bunch of stocks, a few commodities and posted a 0.68 percent gain in one week of playing trader. This translates into a 35.4 percent annual return. His stock picks: Merrill Lynch, Walgreens, Home Depot, Colgate Palmolive and Lowes. For his commodity hedge, he bought gold, nonfat dry milk and shorted the euro against the dollar.
