Advisors on the Move: When Opportunity Knocks

  • UBS bolstered its California presence, adding a dozen advisors to its West Coast offices. On Tuesday, Scott Harries and his team joined UBS’ Los Angeles branch office from Merrill Lynch, bringing $500 million in client assets with them. The firm also added another Los Angeles-based group—which includes Mark Binder, Craig Chiate, Glenn Oratz and Scott Brown—with $3.1 billion in AUM from Merrill Lynch. In Newport Beach, James Axelson, Barry Porter, Tony D. Guinane, James Chaite, Christopher Gaal, Jeffrey C. Hamilton, and David Mandel joined UBS from Merrill Lynch with a collective $1.8 billion in assets under management.
  • National Planning Cooperation, NPC, brought onboard Canton, Ohio-based financial advisor Robert Milan on Wednesday. Milan, who used The Advisor Center to facilitate his move, joined from Ameriprise with $11 million in client assets.
  • Benjamin F. Edwards & Co. expanded its reach, opening its first office in Iowa on Monday. Advisors Dawn Pilipchuk- Kruth and Nickolas Pilipchuk joined from Wells Fargo to help open the new Waterloo location. Financial associates Angelina Lingua and Judy Anderson also will be assisting the sibling team in the new branch office. 
  • Texas-based Point Bridge Capital joined the Dynasty Financial Partners network on Monday, according to firm spokeswoman. Founded by former Credit Suisse director Hal Lambert and his team, including Jeff Wildin, manage $1 billion in client assets. The team, which has two locations in Dallas and Forth Worth, will use Pershing Advisor Solutions for clearing and custody services. Meanwhile, Portland, Ore.-based TRUE Private Wealth Advisors, part of the Dynasty Financial network, expanded by adding The Opsahl Group to their firm. The move was made on October 28th and the group will be based in Portland. Senior Advisor Joseph Opsahl is joining the TRUE team after recently spending four years with Merrill Lynch.
  • Wells Fargo picked up Matthew Sotland and Donald Borowiak from UBS last week.  The team, based in Buffalo, N.Y., has $129 Million in client assets and together has a total of 57 years in the industry.
