- Steve Shirley and Geoffrey F. Ward joined life insurance partnership firm Saybrus Partners as managing directors on Wednesday. Ward was previously national director for MetLife and held senior sales positions at Travelers Life and Annuity. Shirley was previously national accounts vice president for institutional accounts at John Hancock Life Insurance Company and held senior sales management positions at Merrill Lynch & Company.
- This past Tuesday Securian Financial Group promoted three woman managers Laurie J. Fenwick, Linda G. Sonterre, and Angela R. Schema to directors. Their new roles are as follows: Fenwick will be the director of compensation, payroll and human resources information services; Sonterre will be the director of individual annuity product development in annuity actuarial and Schema’s new position will be director of communications and market research.
- Raymond James shook things up on Wednesday, luring industry players to serve as new regional directors within its Investment Advisors Division. Denver-based Sean Marrin—who joined from LPL and previously spent 18 years with Charles Schwab—will be overseeing the West Coast. Snagged from Morgan Stanley, St. Petersburg, Fla.-based Chuck Curtis will cover the division’s Central region. The former vice president of Fidelity’s institutional wealth services, Glen Flego, will head up the Northeast. And Christian Williams, who joined Raymond James in 2007, will serve as the regional director of the Southeast.
- F-Squared Investments captured Paul Gamble as the new Head of F-Squared Retirement Solutions last Tuesday. Prior to joining F-Square, Gamble worked on the sales and client side at Financial Engines.
- Industry veteran Scott W. Schuetz was tapped to become the Vice President, Growth Delivery and Operations at The Phoenix Companies last Wednesday. Schuetz is coming to The Phoenix Companies from Life & Annuity Operations & Services, Aviva Life & Annuity where he was Senior Vice President. Prior to that Schuetz held senior positions at Wells Fargo Bank and Citigroup.
- Russell Investments appointed Mark Schlafly as managing director of client solutions for the firm’s US advisor-sold business. Before Schlafly joined Russell, he was previously the CEO and president of Financial Securities Corporation (FSC) and prior to that Schlafly held executive positions at both A.G. Edwards and LPL Financial.
- Also last week, five-membered Morgan Stanley team broke away from the big-bulge and joined Sanctuary Wealth Services with their new firm Mirador. Mirador Capital Partners is run by family members and long-time friends including founder Don Garman’s mother, who works there. This five-membered team includes founder Don Garman, and his other four Morgan Stanley colleagues Jason Pfannenstiel, Carol Wikle, Dan Murray, and Audrey Glafkides. Combined, this team has over 80 years of experience. The five of them hired Sanctuary Wealth Services to help them form their own breakaway firm.
- Last Tuesday, Baird continued to expand their presence in Houston, TX with the addition of seven new financial advisors to its Private Wealth Management group. Baird was able to lure all seven advisors from A.G. Edwards & Sons—including the following two teams duo Richard W. Ashcroft and Darrell J. Pesek of The Ashcroft Pesek Group and Greg T. Evans, Stephen “Moe” Allain, and Jerred R. Crumley of The Evans-Allain-Crumley Group. In addition, joining these two teams are also industry veterans John Barnefield and William W. Barrow.
- Luxembourg headquartered global independent multi-family office, Oracle Capital Group, snatches former Secretary of State and member of Tony Blair’s cabinet David Blunkett for their advisory board early last week. Oracle’s advisory board helps to provide insight and experience to their board of directors.
- Last week, Commercial real estate brokerage firm Wells Net Lease Group, snags established industry leader, Harjot Gill to head the company’s westward expansion. Gill will be the new Vice President of Investments and will be managing the company’s west coast operations.
