Ethics Committee Inquiry Into Campaign Fund Raising And Financial Reform Legislation

As financial reform enters the final stretch of debate, eight House legislators have come under examination by a Congressional ethics committee to determine whether there were improper links between campaign fund-raising and financial reform legislation, according to a story in The Wall Street Journal, which cites a report in The Hill. The committee has requested information about the timing of and correspondence about certain donations. But the inquiry does not qualify as a full-blown investigation.

The Reps under review include Thomas Price (R., Ga.), Melvin Watt (D., N.C.), Jeb Hensarling (R., Texas), Joseph Crowely (D., N.Y.), Earl Pomeroy (D., N.D.), Frank Lucas (R., Okla.), Christopher Lee, (R. N.Y.), and John Campbell (R. Calif.).
