This past year saw the RIA industry continue to mature, with firms becoming more complex and sophisticated in terms of their employment contracts and non-solicitation agreements. And with that came a war for talent that was more competitive than ever.
Some of these battles were taken to court. From companies suing each other over poaching advisors to cash sweep lawsuits affecting custodians, much of our coverage this year centered around lawsuits.
Take Mariner, which is facing lawsuits on multiple fronts from other firms. The Carson Group was sued by a former employee regarding a sexual assault allegation. LPL was accused of a “corporate raid” and also settled with fired CEO Dan Arnold.
