what was the cost on that?Started using Act 4 Advisors this year and have no complaints going well.
You don't have to actually use the tool that many people are using. The CRM tool you should use must comply all your needs in such tool. It must have the features which you need. If Act! has features that you all need then use it. You can take down notes of what features you need which you cannot live without and also a "wish list" which lists some features you want but not really necessary.
You can then look for tools that has features you listed that you cannot live without. You may check this list of tools that you can compare its features to each other and see if it has the features you need.
I love highrisehq.com its low cost and powerful whilst being easy to use. you could also try sugarcrm which is a bit more feature packed and customisable.
Zoho CRM works well for me - and yes it’s free, it’s very versatile, and very professional.
Google calendar for appointments and reminders - and yes - free.

As I know about it, today’s CRM software is highly scalable and customizable, allowing businesses to gain actionable customer insights with a back-end analytical engine, view business opportunities with predictive analytics, streamline operations and personalize customer service based on the customer’s known history and prior interactions with your business. The CRM Tools have been used aggressively among all the companies for maintaining the organization workflows and a healthy and strong relationship with the customers.
For Small Scale Industries: HUBSPOT, Nimble, CRM Creatio would be good as their cost is very low and affordable with most of the features and it doesn’t require a dedicated team towards it.
For Medium Scale Industries: monday.com, HUBSPOT, Nimble, SugarCRM, ZOHO would be a good choice as again the price is less and provides vast features.
For Large Scale Industries: monday.com, SAP, Salesforce, PIPEDRIVE, Oracle CRM would be a better choice as their enterprise edition is costly and provide good features for big companies to handle their vast customer data and for security reasons as well.
