Evalina by Nicola Simbari sold for $5,040 at Doyle’s Fine Art auction on Feb. 23, 2022 in New York City. Born in Calabria, Italy and raised in Rome, where his father was an architect for the Vatican, Simbari was greatly influenced by both cities. His paintings often feature geometric forms, drawing inspiration from Rome’s architecture, bright hues and blue oceans reminiscent of the Calabrian coastline.
Simbari’s early subject matter featured everyday scenes from his childhood, from fishing towns to the countryside, and he continued to paint and be inspired by his surroundings throughout his career. His use of color and texture (he painted with a palette knife technique) led to his instant success at a young age, with many of his paintings appearing in collections worldwide until this day. Most recently, Simbari’s work was the subject of Findlay Galleries’ Mediterraneo exhibition in sunny Palm Beach, Fla.—a perfect fit for Simbari’s vibrant paintings.
