Susan Colpitts
Founder and CFO, Signature
Susan R. Colpitts is a Founder of Signature and serves as Chief Financial Officer. She leads the firm’s Client Services team and is an expert in the technical areas of financial, tax, trust, and estate planning. She holds the premier AICPA designation of Personal Financial Specialist, and was recognized by Worth magazine in 2004 as one of the 100 top wealth advisers in the country.
Prior to founding Signature with Anne Shumadine, Susan was a tax consultant with the law firms Shumadine and Rose, P.C. and McCandlish Holton, P.C., and the accounting firm Price Waterhouse.
Susan vigorously supports the arts, education, and community causes. Her volunteer activities include being a current Board member and past Chair of the United Way of South Hampton Roads; Chair-elect of this organization’s Women’s Leadership Council; current President of the Virginia Symphony Foundation, current member of the Board of Directors and past Chair of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra; a member of the Planned Giving Advisory Board at the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce; and a Board member of the Downtown Norfolk Council.
Previously Susan served as a Board member and Treasurer of the Norfolk Education Foundation and the Hampton Roads Tax Forum, and as a member, Board member and Treasurer of The Junior League of Norfolk-Virginia Beach.
Susan is a graduate of the University of Virginia, where she received a bachelor’s degree with distinction in English, and a master’s degree in Accounting with a concentration in Taxation.
