We are pleased to announce that the magazine has newly-constituted committees on the fiduciary professions and on practice development.

The new chair of the Fiduciary Professions Committee is Vernon M. Schreiner, in the Dallas office of JPMorgan Private Bank, where he is a managing director and co-head of U. S. fiduciary services. He has been with JPMorgan Chase since 1987. Previously, Schreiner was a senior fiduciary officer for a bank in the Washington, D.C. area. He has served on boards for various charitable organizations in Virginia, Florida and New York.

The members of the fiduciary committee are:

  • John T. Brooks, a partner in the Chicago office of Foley & Lardner and acting chair of the firm's estate and trust litigation practice. His trusts and estates practice encompasses a wide variety of contested matters, including will disputes, breach of fiduciary duty, adoption and paternity issues, estate planning, malpractice, and wrongful death actions. Brooks is the author of Trust Litigation, the 1999 trust administration handbook of the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education.

  • Barbara Ferguson, senior partner at Thompson & Knight LLP in Dallas. A fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, Ferguson practices primarily in estate planning, planned charitable giving, marital agreements and probate. She speaks regularly on estate-planning topics at continuing education programs and has been an adjunct professor at Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law and a teacher at the annual Texas Trust School of Banking.

  • Charles F. Gibbs, previously a member of T&E's estate-planning and taxation committee. Gibbs now offers the fiduciary committee his expertise in trusts and estate litigation. Gibbs is the partner in charge of the New York private wealth services practice group at Holland & Knight LLP and co-chair of the Holland & Knight national trust and estate litigation group. In addition to litigation, he focuses on estate planning, trust and estate administration as well as matrimonial matters. Gibbs has served as an adjunct professor at both New York Law School and the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He is a regent and member of the editorial board of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, and past chair of the college's fiduciary litigation committee. Gibbs also serves as a member of the New York State Office of Court Administration Surrogate's Court advisory committee, and is chair of the estates, trusts and surrogate's court committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.

  • Brian J. Keeney, senior vice president and executive trust officer in the investment management division of The First National Bank of Long Island in Woodbury, N.Y. Keeney has managerial experience in portfolio management, fiduciary administration and marketing. Previously, Keeney was president of the Rockefeller Trust Company in New York.

Trusts & Estates' Sales & Marketing Committee has been renamed Practice Development, to better reflect its focus. The chair continues to be Ted R. Ridlehuber, president and chief executive officer of Athens, Ga.'s Cannon Financial Institute — which focuses on developing the technical and sales skills of financial services professionals throughout the world. Before Cannon, Ridelhuber served as senior vice president and member of the advisory board of directors for The Citizens and Southern National Bank.

Also on T&E's Practice Development Committee are:

  • Mark C. Milton, executive vice president and regional manager for Regions Morgan Keegan Trust Co., where he manages trust and fiduciary activities in Arkansas as well as Louisiana and Texas. Prior to joining Regions, he worked for three other bank holding companies and was responsible for business development, personal trust administration, natural resources management, operations and employee benefits administration.

  • Russ Alan Prince, president of Prince & Associates, Inc, the Redding, Conn.-based market research and consulting firm focused on the private wealth industry. Prince is an authority on the way the financial elite select and work with professional advisors as well as the services and products they prefer. Prince provides a variety of consulting and coaching services in this area and is the author of 30 books including The Private Client Lawyer and Advanced Planning for the Ultra-Affluent.

  • Donna Gardner Schumell, executive vice president of Cannon Financial Institute in Athens, Ga. Before joining Cannon, Schumell was a lawyer in private practice, as well as in-house counsel and regional sales manager for two banks. With an expertise in taxation, advanced estate planning techniques, sales and sales management, Schumell lectures locally and nationally.

  • Howard Williams, head of wealth management for SunTrust Banks in Atlanta. Williams joined SunTrust in 2002 after nearly 20 years with Bank One Trust Company, where he served as its president and CEO. He is experienced in trust, private banking and brokerage matters.
