The CFP Board is following in FINRA’s footsteps and allowing candidates to take its September CFP exam remotely, if they meet certain eligibility requirements. The organization announced the remote proctoring option this week for those scheduled to sit for the exam Sept. 22-29.

Candidates will still have the option of taking the exam at a testing center provided by Prometric, its testing administrator. Prometric has strict social distancing and sanitation guidelines in place at its testing sites.

Candidates are eligible for the remote option if they live more than 50 miles from a Prometric testing center or have a health concern.

"The health and safety of our stakeholders has been paramount as CFP Board has considered how best to continue our examination program during this uncertain time,” CFP Board CEO Kevin Keller said in a statement. “We believe that a remote proctoring option for candidates who have health conditions and other situations that may prohibit them from safely visiting a testing center will support their goal of becoming CFP professionals and protect public health.”

With testing sites closed due to COVID-19, the CFP Board had postponed the July 2020 exam to September. The remote proctor offering will also be available for the November 2020 exam dates. Registration opens on July 29 for that testing window.
