Orion Hires COO From Rival Envestnet

Arun most recently served as COO of Envestnet's Yodlee unit, where he had spent more than 16 years.

Along with a general trend of increased industry consolidation, mergers and acquisitions within the advisor technology landscape, the last few years have seen an increase in the pace of inter-firm personnel churn.

The latest example of the latter is this week’s announcement that Arun Anur has joined Orion as the company’s chief operating officer,  effective as of Dec. 9, 2024.

Anur most recently served as COO of Envestnet’s Yodlee account aggregation, data and analytics unit.

According to an Orion spokesperson, the chief operating officer is a new executive leadership role and will oversee client experience delivery, including service, operations, data reconciliation and onboarding.

“Arun’s deep industry experience and proven track record will ensure we’re delivering a consistently exceptional client experience, seamless service and operational excellence through our reliable systems and support,” Orion CEO Natalie Wolfsen wrote in the statement announcing Anur’s appointment.

December was a busy month for Orion, which announced the acquisition of Summit Wealth Systems, a next-generation portfolio management and reporting platform and the appointment of its co-founder and CEO, Reed Colley, as president of Orion Advisor Technology.

Colley reports directly to Wolfsen and replaces Brian McLaughlin, who stepped down in August.

Also in December, Orion announced that former Envestnet executive and industry analyst Chris Shutler was joining as the firm’s head of strategy and would lead market analysis efforts and help determine areas for potential growth through M&A (he reports to Orion CFO Mark Mayo, who joined the company in September).

Finally, in December, Voya Financial announced it had built a new technology platform for its advisor business in collaboration with Orion. The Voya WealthPath platform is now available to about 450 advisors affiliated with the Voya Financial Advisors broker/dealer.
