Cornerstone Capital Group, an SEC-registered investment advisor, announced it has received an LGBT Business Enterprise certification, granted by the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce. The company was founded by CEO Erika Karp, one of the first gay individuals to be legally married when gay marriage become law in New York.

"While progress has been made, the LGBT community continues to face widespread discrimination at work. At Cornerstone, we believe that greater diversity will lead to improved creativity, collaboration and productivity, which in turn will increase profitability for businesses," said Karp. Her firm takes innovative stances on financial research, including looking at ways in which women are disproportionately impacted by automation replacing traditional work. Cornerstone focuses in part on sustainable finance and environmental, social and governance (ESG) investing and has been active in affirming employment discrimination protections for LGBT individuals.

"We are gratified to be recognized by the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce for our efforts to support inclusion and diversity," Karp said. The firm reported $1 billion in total assets under management on its most recent regulatory filing.
