As we enter the final months of 2015, it’s a good time to take stock of trends in philanthropy year-to-date and examine the outlook for the future. In the remainder of the year, clients have the opportunity to take steps to maximize the impact of their charitable dollars.

 

Impact of Economy

During the past seven years, there’s been a rebuilding of philanthropy in the United States. Since the peak year for charitable giving in 2007, we saw a period of significant decline in 2008 and 2009 followed by a gradual recovery to the point at which inflation-adjusted giving in 2014 finally equaled 2007 levels. (See “Rates of Giving,” p. 14.) It’s estimated that individual giving and total giving will show continued growth for 2015.
