A financial advisor appears to be behind the GameStop run-up that’s captivated global financial markets this week.
Thirty-four-year-old Keith Patrick Gill is the person behind YouTube videos that lit the fuse, alongside Reddit posts from user DeepF***ingValue, that sent GameStop’s stock into the stratosphere, according to a Reuters report.
Posting as Roaring Kitty, Gill “repeatedly made the bull case for the beleaguered bricks-and-mortar retailer and shared images of his trading account profit on the stock,” according to the report.
The YouTube streamer is from Massachusetts, it added, and public records indicate he most recently worked at MassMutual and has been registered with FINRA for five years, according to BrokerCheck.
Gill is no longer working at MassMutual, according to the report, citing a statement from the firm.
While at MassMutual, Gill was reportedly involved with an initiative to “make financial education more accessible.”
