Spiff, one of my Jones friends complained to me that two newer Jones reps in this same town were AGGRESSIVELY trying to poach his clients. He told me that it appeared that they actually had his client list and the blessing of the home office as his complaints fell on deaf ears. I'm curious...do you think it's possible that Jones was trying to drive him out? His numbers are OK...not great, but OK.

I just remembered the main reason I didn't like having other offices in my town. When I met a prospect, and they told me that they had an IRA, or 529, or whatever with a Jones broker, then I was officially DONE with that prospect. However, if that same client tells me he is with ANY other firm, then they are fair game. The more Jones brokers in your town, the more often you will find prospects that are "off limits."

I went doorknocking a few weeks ago and found three people on one street that were with UBS. If I were working for UBS I'd be DONE with those prospects. So, is it a Jones problem or just the way the industry works?

I'm not saying it doesn't happen at other firms. What I am saying is that UBS doesn't tell their brokers "Hey, we're adding another UBS office a mile from your office. Don't be upset, this is a good thing for you and your business," and then go into some explanation about better brand awareness.
I'm sure UBS brokers (and other brokers) realize that this is just the way things work and deal with it.

Real estate brokers and car dealers call it “flooding the floor”. The
strategy is to hire so many salespeople that they cut each others’ throats,
kill bonuses, and the only one who makes out is the owner, who as a
consequence of all this activity, sells more units.
To answer the question on the poaching of clients. YES it does happen and if your a butt kisser and can churn and burn you get the keys to the candy jar. It’s about PRODUCTION!! The region and the RL is about building his territory or downline. THe more production he has the better he looks to the St Louis Mafia!! Eat or be Eaten!..For you newbies looking to make it in the EDJ system…you had better be at every meeting…kissing the ass of the RL and his inner circle. Push yourself to get up at meetings and praise EDJ and how honored you are to be allowed a great opportunity. Sit in the front rows…Work saturdays and send a wire to your RL asking a question on something to let him know you’re working. If you hear any gossip about someone leaving or is unhappy, CALL THE RL. I tell a couple of these ass kissing newbies I’m about to leave around every holiday…It causes the RL to conveniently call me and ask how I’m doing…lovely!! Volunteer for everything!! If JIM Weed dle can do it…you can to!
