The majority of currencies around the world feature heads of government, with most of those being images of men. Just 15% of international banknotes feature women, but the individual appearing most often is Queen Elizabeth II of England. 

The United Kingdom's pound sterling is also the oldest currency in continuous use, dating back to the establishment of the Bank of England in 1694.

And while people are usually featured on banknotes, some nations do use animals—although it appears no country includes dogs on their currency.
