Compliance technology firm RIA in a Box is attempting to buck a trend. In an industry known for terrible app development, the firm is making its mobile app available to both Android and iOS users, the firm announced today. The app launched to address two major advisor needs: timely compliance maintenance and compliance-focused education.

For advisors with a MyRIACompliance account, the new app allows advisors to sign into the program from a mobile device, review a compliance calendar and access a compliance task to-do list. Advisors can customize the notifications that accompany compliance to-do lists as well.

The app also serves as an education portal, allowing advisors to watch cybersecurity training videos and complete compliance quizzes from their phones, for those that are enrolled in the company’s cybersecurity platform. RIA in a Box provides new training videos monthly.

With the coronavirus pandemic increasing advisors’ attention to their technology and mobility, RIA in a Box decided it was the right time to unveil the app, said GJ King, president of the firm. “It makes sense now, more than ever, to allow advisors to access compliance needs where they spend so much of their time [on] their phones,” he said in a statement.

While the app operates as a stand-alone program—meaning it doesn’t have some of the same integration capabilities that its desktop program has—push notifications that originate within the app can alert advisors to upcoming compliance deadlines. The app doesn’t integrate with CRM or scheduling apps an advisor might have on his or her phone, but ultimately it’s one more method for busy advisors to stay compliant by avoiding an overlooked deadline.
