ETF Issuers Remained Active in August

Over half of the 40 new exchange traded funds listed in the U.S. were active ETFs, and eight new buffer funds came onto the market.

ETF launches in the U.S. did not slow down in August despite the summer holiday season. According to CFRA’s FUNDynamix ETF data platform, there were 40 new ETFs listed in the U.S. in the month. Eight of them were in the fast-growing buffer ETF category. With these recent launches, there are now 293 buffer ETFs listed in the United States. Other indexed ETF launches include the VanEck Fabless Semiconductor ETF (SMHX) and the Xtrackers Artificial Intelligence And Big Data ETF (XAIX), which are in the semiconductor and robotics categories.

Just over half of the new launches were active ETFs, with five new firms entering the ETF industry. Jensen entered the ETF space with an active quality growth ETF (JGRW). Fellow new entrant Octane Investments launched an all-cap value energy ETF (OCTA), and Rockefeller entered with three municipal bond ETFs. Two additional new firms in the ETF industry in August 2024 were Twin Oak and TappAlpha. With the entry of these new players, there are now 326 ETF issuers in the United States.
