Matthew J. Frerichs

Principal, Robins Kaplan LLP

Matthew Frerichs practices in the Estate and Trust arena, focusing on estate planning, trust and estate administration, guardianship and conservatorship law, and estate and trust litigation. Matt’s technical knowledge and experience in complex planning, combined with his ability to sensitively and conscientiously navigate difficult and often complex family dynamics, gives clients peace of mind that their legacy is secure. Prior to joining Robins Kaplan LLP, Matthew was an associate at a Minnesota law firm practicing in the areas of estate planning, probate, real estate, and business law.

A frequent speaker and writer, Matt has particular experience presenting on risk mitigation in estate planning and on the ethical issues that attorneys face when working with clients with mental illness or diminished capacity.

Matt previously served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Sean C. Gibbs of the Minnesota District Court. He received a B.A. and an M.S.W. from the University of St. Thomas, and earned his J.D. from the University of St. Thomas School of Law. He continues to support the school’s mission through his participation in the St. Thomas Mentor Program.

Seth Nielsen

Associate, Robins Kaplan LLP

Seth focuses his practice on complex business and intellectual property litigation. He represents both plaintiffs and defendants, ranging from small business owners to Fortune 500 companies. His experience spans multiple industries and technologies including medical devices, automated derivatives trading, e-commerce, and retail products. Seth leverages his background in economics to continually learn about his clients' businesses, goals, and objectives, and translates this knowledge into value-driven business solutions.

In addition to representing businesses, Seth also has significant experience representing pro bono clients in family law and child protection cases. Seth has helped clients obtain divorce, modify custody, and secure grandparents' visitation, and has helped children seek protective services and navigate the foster care system.

Seth attended law school at William Mitchell College of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude. While in law school, he represented clients as a certified student attorney through the school's Civil Advocacy Clinic. Lisa Beane

Associate, Robins Kaplan LLP

Lisa is a business litigation attorney who helps a variety of clients, from individuals to large companies, resolve complex business disputes. Lisa’s previous professional experience spans the public and private sectors in for-profit and non-profit environments. Lisa uses this diversity of experience to help clients and client teams develop and implement legal strategies that fit clients’ business objectives.

Lisa joined Robins Kaplan LLP after clerking for the Honorable Wilhelmina M. Wright of the Minnesota Supreme Court. As a law clerk, Lisa provided research and advice on a broad range of civil and criminal issues based on detailed study of the record and relevant case law.

Lisa attended the University of Minnesota Law School, where she graduated magna cum laude, Order of the Coif. Lisa also was the Lead Managing Editor of the Minnesota Law Review.
