The bad news is that the nation's grant-making foundations gave about the same in 2002 as they did in 2003 — this, after six years of double-digit growth. The worse news is that many said they expected to give even less in 2003.
The latest report from the Foundation Center is hardly surprising, given the economic climate. The center's report found the 62,000 grant-making foundations in the U.S. gave an estimated $30.3 billion, almost unchanged from $30.5 billion in 2001.
It was to be expected: The report also shows that foundation assets fell by an estimated 10 to 12 percent in 2002, following an almost 4 percent decline in 2001. And no one can be shocked to hear that about 42 percent of the 747 respondents ...
