The Shops at Hudson Yards is definitely geared toward the high-end, aspirational shopper, with tenants including Coach, Kate Spade, Neiman Marcus, Fendi and Van Cleef and Arpels, among others.
Higher Aspirations
The mall includes a contemporary art gallery space, complete with works from international artists.
Popular Imagination
The art gallery, facing the mall entrance and offering access to the view of the streets outside, attracted a fair amount of traffic--though not as much as did the shops and restaurants.
Art Appreciation
The opening night party also featured a performance by ballet dancers, set against a backdrop imitation of a 17th century theater.
Care for Some Exercise?
A small-scale model of the art installation currently referred to as The Vessel. In order to climb up the stairs inside the structure, curious New Yorkers and tourists have to reserve their spot days in advance--at least for now.
Talk of the Town
It's hard to determine how the mall will perform in the years to come, but plenty of people showed up for the project's opening night.
Food as a Draw
A roster of high-end restaurants and a Spanish food market Mercado Little Spain--with a feeling similar to Eataly--is supposed to attract shoppers to the mall and get them to linger awhile.
A Grand Entry
The mall's entrance, on 10th Avenue, is still surrounded by construction cranes and cordoned-off sidewalks, while Hudson Yards developers finish up the rest of the project.
