Ninth is John Kilroy, of Kilroy Realty Corp., who also earned over $11.3 million in total compensation. Kilroy received the highest non-equity incentive plan compensation of the group at $3.8 million.
8. James Taiclet, American Tower Corp.
American Tower Corp.’s James Taiclet, standing at number eight, earned an $11.8 million total compensation package last year, 2.9 percent lower than in 2015. The deal included nearly $9 million in restricted stock awards.
7. Stephen Smith, Equinix Inc.
Seventh on the list is Stephen Smith, of Equinix, which specializes in data centers. Smith received just over $12 million in 2016 for his total compensation. In 2015, Smith’s total compensation was $11.1 million.

In 2016, Sandeep Mathrani, of GGP Inc., a retail property specialist, brought in over $12.7 million total. This marked a big pay cut for Mathrani, whose compensation in 2015 totaled $39.2 million.

Second in the rankings is Hamid Moghadam, of Prologis, a logistics real estate specialist. Moghadam’s total compensation package last year was $15.5 million, which included a $2.3-million-bonus—Moghadam was the second of two top-10 executives to get one—and $12.1 million in restricted stock awards. In 2015, he received, in total, just under $15 million.

At the top of the pack is Marc Holliday, of SL Green Realty Corp., with a $17.3 million compensation package. It’s a cut from the $23 million he received in 2015, but it has earned him the title of the highest-paid public REIT CEO in the United States.
