The new master’s program will focus on fiduciary responsibilities and ethics.
The Yale School of Management has launched a new master’s program in asset management, a one-year degree program that will begin in fall 2020 aimed at preparing individuals for jobs on the buy and sell sides of the industry.
The program is being developed in conjunction with the Yale Investments Office, which runs the school’s endowment, one of the best performing in the world. As of June 2018, the fund had $29 billion in assets and produces a return of 11.8% per annum. Chief Investment Officer David Swensen and Senior Director Dean Takahashi will teach in the program.
The program is aimed at individuals just out of college or with less than three years of experience.
“One goal we have is to train the future generations of investment managers ‘the right way’ by not only teaching the state-of-the-art techniques, but also conveying to them the importance of fiduciary responsibility and ethical investment practices,” said Tobias J. Moskowitz, professor of finance and faculty director of the program.
The one-year program, with classes from Thursday evening through Saturday of each week, will train students on investment theory, factor investing and risk management, with a quantitative tilt. It will be similar to a Ph.D. program, but with an eye toward practical application.
Yale will hand out scholarships and fellowships to students from underrepresented backgrounds.
