The Certified Financial Planner Board, which grants the coveted CFP designation to financial advisors, has postponed its examination yet again. In March, the organization said it would push back exams for 153 candidates that were not able to test succesfully to July, and now it says exams will take place Sept. 22-29, 2020.

During the March 10-17 exam window, 2,597 candidates were able to test successfully before Prometric closed its test centers on March 17. The 153 candidates that were not able to take the test will be given priority registration for either September or November exam.

“The health and safety of our exam candidates has been paramount to us as we’ve monitored the COVID-19 pandemic and considered its impact on the CFP exam,” said Kevin R. Keller, CFP Board’s CEO. “CFP Board did not make this decision lightly. We recognize the months of preparation many candidates put into preparing for the exam, and we appreciate their ongoing dedication and perseverance.”

Folks who were scheduled to take the test in July will receive more details by May 31 on rescheduling their appointment to either the September or November windows. The registration deadline is Sept. 8, and individuals can reschedule at no additional cost.

There are currently more than 86,000 financial advisors with the CFP designation.
