Referrals can be the lifeblood of brokers' businesses.

Steve Saenz, a business coach at Paragon Resources in Atlanta, has a marketing method he says will significantly increase the quantity and quality of referrals. It's called the "Top 100 Marketing System."

The $495 system (with a series of coaching calls for another grand), is billed as a referral and client-loyalty system. Saenz offers a teaser for the product on a free cassette tape.

The gist of the system is identifying your top 25 clients by net worth and listing four centers of influence (spouse, business partner, family member, etc.) for each client. These are the 100 individuals you want to get to know.

How to do this is explained in a 150-page workbook. The free tape includes testimonials from fee-based consultants who share real-life stories.

An SEC advisory committee on market data convened in October and December last year. The broad-based committee is considering all issues involved in collecting and disseminating real-time market data. But the biggest one is what brokerage firms must pay to give clients real-time quotes.
