If you change firms and your clients transfer with you, does American funds hold the 12b-1 fee for another 12 mos.  I thought I read that somewhere. Anyone.  Anyone.

I'm pretty sure they don't...I'm getting trails from them and I'm less than a year out from my old firm...

Ask your wholesaler...

AF pays trails?

Jun 7, 2006 10:43 pm

Okay, here's the weird thing:

I got trails from American Funds right away. First Quarter out.

BUT- I had a client who needed to liquidate some money. A Pretty good sum- they bought at NAV since I got to count everything- American Funds dinged them 1% for "holding less than a year". The client had to bring in proof they owned the funds longer. It seems when American Funds are held at Jones they are 'household accounts' and the length of time held does not transfer along.

Just make sure you have proof of purchase- escpecially if it was NAV or B or C shares.

American Funds has wholesalers?  Really?  I thought that was just an urban legend.

Who is American Funds?

they do,

I have a meeting with my AF wholesaler in a few weeks.

Do they have a reputation that they don't have many wholesalers?

Scrim

This may be the only time you see him.  Ask him to take you to lunch, he'll ask if your buying.

Mine's gone cheap on me too...doesn't want to underwrite any client events all of a sudden...after I did over a million for them the first four months of this year.  That will cost the arrogant bastards some business, but I doubt if they'll care...

I’ve never really understood, exactly what is a wholesaler supposed to do anyway?  Every one I’ve seen just wants to talk about their #1 selling fund.  I do like the seminars American Funds puts on occasionally but I’ve always thought I could have learned more by reading it in an email than him telling me jokes to keep me interested.

Anyone notice that Growth Fund of AMERICA now has over 20% in foreign stocks?  Truth in labeling issue maybe?  hmmmmmm

The Am.Funds worshipers better start to realize that MOST BOND FUNDS have beat the almighty and powerful GFA over past 5 yrs.

Columbia Marsico 21st Century (NMYCX, NMYAX)… Only a 6 year track- but everyone knows Marsico’s prowess…

Jun 8, 2006 2:55 pm

Let me clarify. Gilchrist manages the everyday decisions, but Marsico is in charge of macroeconiomic views and investment policy mandates for this sleeve.

I think they have a reputation for having wholesalers who don't come around that often.

In 7 years our guy made ummm I'd say 1 trip per year to see us.

Back in the day when we could get some 'assistance' from our Preferred Product Partners, I asked Metlife, Lord Abbett and American Funds to pitch in a little shindig we put together. Total cost was just over $5000, so anything they could give would be great.

Metlife came, spoke, handed out little Snoopies and cut a check. Lord Abbett came, spoke and cut a check.

American Funds came and spoke. The wholesaler gave me a sleeve of golf balls with American Funds stamped on them. One Sleeve. Not a box. Not a Case. Not one sleeve for each client. One (1) Sleeve.

I still have it. Unopened. I plan to sell it back to Jones to put in the History of Edward Jones Museum.

American Funds RULE.

No, they didn't give me any rulers- just one sleeve of balls. Do you want it? It seems like you need an extra set.

"American Funds RULE"

IH, you remind me of the 4 EDJ guys who have come over... They sit in the corner during sales meetings in their crappy suits with these confused looks on their faces... all four are failing miserably out of our program...

Maybe I have been lucky! I asked American Funds to give a client seminar and my whole saler came and presented and paid 75% of the cost. I have met with the him twice so far this year! One thing I will say for his credit He always sends a thank you card at least once a month. He is a worker!

As far as American funds ruling! I use seveal fund companies! Not just American funds IH! Today I invested more into IVY & Franklin then American funds.

IH, you will be gone in three months and I must say I will not miss you, But I know Jones hires morons like you every day and there will be some one else just as ignorant to replace you in three months. On this board we have heard from so many rookies ranting on & on about how great Jones is and then all of a sudden they are gone! And you will be too.
