I have run my own small business for the last 9 years that is heavily dependent upon sales.  Although I have been successful, I am looking to take my skill set to the next level in hopes of greater fulfillment along with greater income.  A family friend who is a BD sponsored me to get my Series 7 and I will sit for the 66 next week.  Goal is to become CFP.  What are some of the best options for me.  My business is currently under contract which will provide a nest egg of sorts, but not interested in going from making 90k to 20k.  I have read the EJ and MSSB threads, but I am not a new college grad, and have already been working 60-65 hour weeks doing sales and cold calls.  Family friend will mentor me, but no salary or benefits.  I am confident in my abilities, but would also like some dough in the short run.

If you eventually want to be Indie just start that way with your friend otherwise you will be tied in for years with a training agreement with another firm.  Keep in mind the salary goes away after 2 years so IMHO you should just start indie and get a higher payout in lieu of a training salary at a large firm.
