Looking for y'alls input here.  Your first appointments with new prospects are held:

1) At their place, because who wants to visit us after just 1-2 phone calls?

2) At the office, because it's a great way to separate the chaff from those truly interested

3) No fast rules here - each situation is very different.

Did you have some crack for breakfast?  Just wondering.

number 3

number 3, BUT

Always preferable to meet at the office. If the prospect is a distance away, and you are at a wirehouse, find a branch near them for you to meet in. Its always more professional to meet at the/an office environment. Secondly, If the client isnt willing to leave their house, how serious are they?

As a newbie I used to meet with a client wherever they wanted to meet. But after a few years, when you are up and running, and can afford to be a little more focused, I would stand my ground and not be a coffee table salesman. Some would say, take that approach from day one, I almost agree, but I remember how hard it was to pass on a person with a lot of money who just didnt want to travel, when I was new.

First appointment? You’re running more than one appointment? Why? Do you need more time to muster the courage to try to close the deal?

Chrissy, why do a bunch of words on your computer monitor trigger such an emotional reaction? Doesn't that scare you a little bit?

Little light on your psych meds are you?

Generally I use the first meeting to get to know the prospect better, and to collect statements for use in an investment/asset allocation proposal the next time we get together.

If they are just buying a product I'm offering, no appointments are really needed - but they are preferred for obvious reasons.

HEY BOBBY,

Whoever told you to be yourself couldn't have given any worse advice.

If we wanted your sh*t all the time, we would just squeeze your head.

Actually, I've been trying to be like your stepdad. Get it? Know what I mean? Me and your mom? Yep, you get it.

Bobby,
