Ok…because of the overwhelming majority of  people on this site
that dislike EDJ, I decided to cancel my face to face interview this
past Monday.  I’m thinking about  about going to AGE
and seeing what they  have to offer.  I’ve got  my MBA
and  someone  said  I couldn’t even  put it on my
business card at EDJ.  Do they not want their clients to know that
an IR has a business degree…please.   Thanks all for you

AGE is a great choice.

You are never going to be successful if you allow a bunch of faceless people on a message board influence you to make life altering decisions like that.  You even titled your subject "You people did it".  Have some guts, if you don't want to work there then take that responsibility on yourself, don't put it on others!!!

Pathetic

Good for you! And thanks for saving us all the overhead to train you… Taking career advice on a forum? PLEASE…

I'm sure Tarheel would have gotten a much more balanced picture by listening to the shills of Maryland Heights.

Tarheel68,

I hope this doesn't sway your decision:

Ahutch is right, don't base your career decsions on what you read on some message board.

Looks like your MBA isn't helping much.

Good luck!

My decision was based on EDJ hiring career transits from used car sales
to Kirby vacuum cleaner sales.  I’m not going door to door, but
feel free to do so. As far as being successful …lol…I sold out my
part of a construction business back in December of 2004 and did quite
well…“you people did it,” was a joke…I have always done what I’ve
wanted to do and will continue to do so…my MBA was a personal
goal…not intended to  land me a job going door to door, or
calling people kissing their arse to try to make a small
commission…but you have fun doing that …I agree with Put, most of
you are a little better than a car salesman…thanks for your
insightful comments. <!–

Painful or resentful awareness of an advantage enjoyed by another joined with a desire to possess the same advantage.

Hostile toward a rival or one believed to enjoy an advantage

Tarheel-AGE is a great firm and certainly has earned their good repuation but to cancel interviews because of what was said on a forum? Perhaps the MBA didn’t teach you what it should have… You are certainly the best judge for your career not someone who doesn’t know you. I wish you luck. Make sure that you ask all of us where you should buy your next house or you may make a mistake!!

You need to move your Van down by the river. Anyone that doesn’t check things out firsthand, deserves what they get. You and Puttrader oughta get along real well…

EDJ just paid 300 million to settle a suit.  People are suing for everything in today's world of investing.

All I can say about these articles is, the media is interested in the negative.  AGE is a very reputable company, no proprietary products.

There is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with going door-to-door or cold calling to build your business.  I can provide many examples of how these work.  You can't generate clients out of thin air at a wirehouse.  They don't walk in your door and ask to open an account.  You have to seek them out some way and show why you will take care of them better than anyone else.

What's wrong with car and vacuum cleaner sales people? Most of them can sell rings around most of the people in this industry. What they get paid to do, they do well. They didn't create or invent the resistance to their professions that manifests itself the distain you show here. They just have to overcome it to make a living. In my book that earns them a measure of respect.

Working in our industry, you can be an advisor of the highest ethical quality, with the best plan for each prospective client, but if you can't "sell" the prospect on why they should trust you with their financial future you'll be looking for other uses for your MBA. Maybe you should do a short stint, six months or so, as a car salesman so you can get that part of the job down. Not only will it round out your education, it will help you recognize buy signals to keep your MBA from driving a stake in an otherwise closed case.

Kargon,

Were did you get your information on EDJ paying 300 million to settle a suite? All I can find with 300 million is the state of CA saying EDJ "collected some $300 million in secret payments from mutual funds"

Just wondering were you got your info??
