I am in the process of starting up a OSJ which will just be Inst. Equity Sales Trading (for now). I have aligned myself with a BD that has a very deep compliance background - over 40 years experience and I will probably be using Pershing as a clearing agent. Does anyone know about the clearing charges there? Any hidden fees that I will find out about in the final negotiations? Any insight from anyone having dealth with them would be most appreciated.

You might get more responses if you correct your thread topic. Based on what you titled this thread, I thought you were starting a new B/D, which you obviously are not - you are opening a new branch of an established B/D.

Pershing’s charges are different per B/D. so unless you state your B/D then there is no way to predict what your charges are.

Hope you can answer this question then. If I am starting up an OSJ, will I be able to use my own name 'ABC Capital Markets' on the door and to the street? Or will i have to use the sponsoring BD's name?

You can use your own name, however there are some guidelines(specific words that you can’t use unless you also operate your own RIA)

I’m confused by your line of questioning.  If you have already affiliated (not “aligned,” which is something you do to tires) with a b/d, you should easily get answers to these questions directly from them.  Having said that, I can’t imagine how you intend to act as your own OSJ if you are not aware of what name you can operate under, or how much it will cost.

What exactly do you mean when you say you are "in the process of starting up a OSJ"?

My guess is he is curious(so process, probably wasn’t the word he should have used)…wirehouse guy being booted…

What I mean, exaclty, is that I am talking with a sponsoring BD who is interested in my line of business. They are used to sponsoring retail brokers and not Insitutional sales traders so they are looking at the metrics to see if will be a good fit for them. Obviously I know that i can’t be an OSJ unless i have a sponsoring Broker Dealer. I know how much it will cost to a point but have not reached that part of the negotiations yet. I am just trying to find out more of what I can expect prior to my next conversation with them. I am not officially affiliated yet.
