Thought this was interesting:  http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=afPeVidPdSp0&refer=home

I still just can't imagine one day knowing you or your organization has hundreds of millions or billions of dollars one day, and then it was ALL gone the next.  I just can't fathom it.

I think the fallout from this has not really even been felt yet. This along with the losses people have suffered, along with the failure of firms I think will change the landscape for a long time.  For some investors,  especially older ones, they will never trust the stock market again.  I actually think this maybe the story of the year when its all said and done.

Wow I can not believe that you said that.  You are Anti Semitic. I know it is hard to get information thru your rock hard skull, but Jew’s are just like every one else. Some are good some are bad, some lie and steal; some are honest and would give you the shirt off their backs. Anabuhabkuss Please learn to keep your prejudice out of this discussion board.

anabuhabkuss,

You're better than that!

Dec 30, 2008 10:09 pm

Wow, I honestly did not intend for the racist overtone that was received. I am sorry it was a tasteless joke and for offending you. I whole heatedly agree that greed, evil, etc does not discriminate against religion, culture, or race.

Again, my apologies.

I accept your apology. But going forward please be more careful. Prejudicial statements have to be challenged when raised, even when you say the are “tasteless joke”. Please remember to paraphrase Edmund Burke; The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men/women to do nothing.

I really would like to see his “personal asset inventory list”.  Any one have the scoop on where it can be found?  And yes, I know it’s not supposed to be public record.  That’s why I’m asking.

Jack Black,

Clearly you do not understand that there is a fundamental difference between the following terms: Racist, Anti Semitic, prejudice, politically incorrect and naive.

My statement in no way suggests that I am hostile towards Jews thus rendering your labeling me to be Anti Semitic purely judgmental, useless, pointless, and flat out ignorant. In your attempt to attack me as thick headed, you overlooked the fact that any high school drop out can pass judement and label others they don’t know on a message board. The question is not whether or not I had malicious intent, but why you chose to believe I did just because I uttered words, that in your diary, fall under the “Prejudice” category.

In my experience the people who are first to accuse others of any of the labels I posted above are a) racist themselves b) picking the role of the victim as a means to backlash.

See Clint Eastwood’s words http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/Movies/12/29/eastwood.gran.torino/index.html?iref=newssearch

Yes, prejudicial statements can be challenged, but please understand that just because a series of words listed in your book as “prejudice” are spoken to you, that does not mean the person saying them is hateful and said person has malicious intention. Not everybody on the planet has the time to read up an encyclopedia of statements that offend others. Usually the offended have unresolved issues that, I think, they should seek counsel for. In other words, why would you see my statement as Anti Semitic while IndyOne, who may or may not be Jewish, finds it as a funny politically incorrect statement?

Take, for example, the person who comes back from a trip in Europe with a black eye because he naively called a Scot, or even an Englishman, British! Or the European who may naively use the word “boy” in a statement delievered to an African American. Everybody is naive, but not everyone is prejudice because of words spoken.

Again, my apologies for anyone who felt offended. But I seriously do not have time to worry about what may or may not strike a sensitive note with someone. My intention was to not be prejudice but clearly I was naive to think putting the terms Jew and money in the same sentence wouldn’t upset someone setting alone in his dark corner.

First I never called you a Racist. It would not fit the definition Jews are not a race.

Second, Anti-Semitic and prejudice do have an over lap. Please see the definitions below, they were pulled from Dictionary.com

Racist:

Belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.

Anti Semitic:

A person who discriminates against or is prejudiced or hostile toward Jews.

Prejudice:

1. An unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason.

2. Any preconceived opinion or feeling, either favorable or unfavorable.

3. Unreasonable feelings, opinions, or attitudes, esp. of a hostile nature, regarding a racial, religious, or national group.

4. Such attitudes considered collectively: The war against prejudice is never-ending.

5. Damage or injury; detriment: a law that operated to the prejudice of the majority.

Third, just because you had NO malicious intent, does not absolve you. You fail to understand that if people do not fight back against prejudice that it goes on. The myth of Jewish wealth and control of money is one of the oldest Anti-Semitic myths around. It basis lay in the prohibition of Jew from work a lot of profession in Europe during the middle ages , they were restricted by law to certain fields, like medicine, law and money leading.

Fourth: As to your point “Yes, prejudicial statements can be challenged, but please understand that just because a series of words listed in your book as "prejudice" are spoken to you, that does not mean the person saying them is hateful and said person has malicious intention.” I never said that you were hateful or had malicious intention, I do not care if you are either; I care about your actions. When you start to make wise cracks that are prejudicial you should be called on it. Your intent does not matter. I do not think you are a bad person or even prejudice but what you said was prejudice.

Fifth you said ” The question is not whether or not I had malicious intent, but why you chose to believe I did just because I uttered words, that in your diary, fall under the "Prejudice" category.”  That is not the question; I believe the question why you can not see the prejudice in your statement. Please note I am NOT accusing you of being prejudice or being a bad person, just being ignorant.

I hereby move that any mockulatory comments made in this forum will always and only reference southern, white, Christian males from this point forward, and everafter.  We are the only people on our fair orb whom you can officially, and with reckless malice aforethought, harangue, abuse, verbally flagellate or otherwise poke, prod and pummel.  We accept this gracefully, with a polite tip of our Bass Pro caps and an impish grin, giving a quick and friendly wave to all from our F150 trucks as we motor out of town to the deer lease.

So let it be written, so let it be done.

2wheelebeemer:

I do not think I am being overly sensitive. I just have to call them as I see them. No group should put up with be prejudice or discrimination and that includes white southern Christian gentlemen.

<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

My experience with prejudice is if you ignore it gets worse, if you fight back it gets better. One example in high school in shop class one of my friends  who wore a Yamika, a bully took it off his head and would not give it back. He asked for it back and the guy laughed and started to tease him, my friend asked the teacher to get it back and the teacher did. Latter that day the bully and his friends chased me and my friend, we were luck to get away. The next day the bully tried the Yamika thing again, this time I pick up a hammer and went after him, I only got to hit him once before the teacher took the hammer away from me. I know I over reacted and would now act diffently, but I will tell you what, that bully never bothered me or my friend again.

You spelled "Yarmulke" wrong and I think you're lying about hitting the kid with a hammer.

Hank Moody:

Thanks for the spelling tip; I am dyslexic and just a bad speller.

As to you thinking I am a lying, well I really care less what you think.

You can think what ever you would like; it has no bearing as to what is the Truth.

You were quick to call me Anti Semitic and then change your tune to clarifying that I’m not a bad guy just someone who said a prejudice statement? You say you’re not sensitive yet admit to hitting someone with a hammer? I think you’re confused in your views.

I think more harm is done when someone brings up an issue when there really is no issue there. Again, if you, hypothetically, believe my intent was not to be mean, why make an issue out of it? It is your interpretation of the statement and it’s intent that can hurt you more than the statement itself! My statement was not anti Semitic nor prejudice, not by definition. It was a stereotype. Nothing wrong with that.

You are being sensitive; that’s not an opinion. I know this because I’ve been around people who can laugh at these stereotypes without being offended. It takes an intelligent person to do this, not someone who is stupid or a coward because they failed to take action to ‘stop the spread of prejudice statements’. Not all of us run around after bully’s with a hammer (and what was the point of bringing up that story anyway? Don’t tell me, haha, you think the guy was prejudice just because he grabbed a yarmulke!)

If in doubt and you do not like what someone has to say, walk away or ignore it . Enforcing your ‘truths’ will not make you any less sensitive.

Look at the title of this thread - MADOFF - even here, in our own little world this mthrfkr has caused the kind of problems that we cant stand for.

I was offended by anabuhabkuss comments like a lot of other people, but he apologized. And i accept his statement that he is not prejudiced and didnt mean to offend, at face value. I cant blame Jack for being upset. But my gues is that what lead to the response by anabuhabkuss and this long diatribe is that after ana apologized Jack accepted it, but then went on to lecture ana.
beemer - i’ve seen plenty of WASPS get pissed off when a black guy calls them a Honky. I also know a number of holocoaust survivors who are still around and i;ve heard their stories. So forgive us if we are a bit sensitive.
Jack - as far as being called a liar - dont give it a second thoguht, he calls everyone that. It no longer has meaning.
I’m not going to post on this thread any more, no matter what responses i get, if any, becuase  i think everyone made their points. My opinion (which i dont mean to push on anyone) is that this thread is best off left to die, unless it goes back to the origianl discussion of Madoff, who should be hung by his fingernaile from a burning piece of wood.

Can't we all just get along? Anabuhabkuss, I din't think your joke was racist, anti-sematic or whatever.  It just lacked taste, as do all jokes that are based off of perceived negative stereotypes.  He apologized that's all I needed and that's all anyone should need.  Happy New Year to everyone on the RegRep forum.  Let's hope that 2009 is a better year in the markets!

If everyone listened to more Bob Marley the world would be a better place!!!
