Happy to see that this site doesn't require you to be an fa to post here, afterall.  Or maybe they haven't gotten around to banning me yet for not being an fa.  At this venture, I haven't left the building yet.  If you don't like my being here then ignore this post and don't respond.  Deal.

The moderators can chase me off but the likes of some others who like to publicly ridicule me for liking Suze Orman or whom may have the audacity to post a PM when I was trying to help him won't be able to.

For the record, I am not a die-hard Suze Orman fan but I will say she does give no-nonsense advice to the financially uneducated.  I know much more from watching her show than I did. People have called in and said they have avoided making financial mistakes from watching her show.

It doesn't seem that anyone can take over her spot (YET) as the most watched financial guru on tv though; why don't the others have their own tv show???  So thus it seems that not only do you need to possess good financial knowledge; you also need a celebrity personality, too--maybe that's why.

At least she caters to everyone with her advice but with latest focus on women and doesn't just focus on gay people.

It seems that someone else BETTER would have taken over?  Why doesn't Dave Bach or others have their own show?

It was interesting how she mentioned the $100 thru - was it TD Ameritrade?  (They seem to like her since they teamed up with her!)  However, she did mention that even after 13 mos, you won't be able to keep it unless you continue to do business with them.  Wow!  Great deal!  We'll give $100 but the catch is you won't get to take it out of your account.

I propose that if there's a better well known guru, get him booked on Oprah and everything else will follow.  If all of the fa's hate her, then you should be motivated to knock her off of her well paid pedestal and get someone else booked in her place.

On a different note, it's interesting to see fas talk about working at different companies on this site especially if you are researching the field.  It would be really interesting to see fas prove that their company is the best to do business with: hmmm, haven't seen that yet.  Suze doesn't mention specific companies but gives advice on what to look for in an fa.

Seems more conservative investors prefer Suzie's advice: for example, paying off a mtg vs using home for leverage as in discussion below.

I go back to Suzee’s apparent twinkee origins. Wasn’t she a white trash waitress hawking dougnuts or something? The part about her being successful is great, but why does she have to be a fast food spokeswoman for our industry?

So you’re not an FA and yet you continually post here? It amazes me how some people possess such boring lives… Kill me if I ever get like that- please…

Mar 27, 2007 7:09 pm

Hmmm, if I'm able to post here...guess I don't have to be an fa.  You must be very bored to have to take the time to BULLY other people off this site.  The moderators can bully me but you can't.

Maybe I am an fa.  Do you think Bobby Troll has always told the truth.

My suggestion is to encourage a Suzie replacement.

Interesting comments.  Where did she first work:  ML?  She had obtained donations from her fans and she invested this money and lost it all.  She proceeded to sue the firm where she worked.  If she got ripped off by ML--guess that makes them trashy, too?

I am a student and need to get back to my studies.  Just wanted to make a statement that BULLYS on FORUMS don't CONTROL the forums.    it's the moderators or webmasters who control the forums, stupid.

If you just want FA's to post here, write to your friendly moderators and get them to change the rules.

Dirk, where are you?

Mar 27, 2007 7:23 pm

Ok I’ll take the bait.  Suze is not a “financial advisor”, she is an entertainer with a MODEST amount of financial knowledge, and uses that limited knowledge to sell her books and financial pornography.

She spends much of her time delivering advice to people who she does not even know, based upon that person’s 30 second summary of their question and what they believe to be the relevant facts.

Most of her advice consists of information that anyone with a modicum of common sense should know…like “Don’t use a credit card to pay for something that you can’t afford.”  or “If you have credit cards and can only make the minimum payments maybe you need to change your lifestyle a little and pay off the credit cards.”  Wow…what a revelation.  People who don’t know that don’t need a financial advisor, they need a good smack in the back of the head.

Some of the advice she gives is just plain wrong and stupid…but we’ll leave that for another time.

The best one for me is reading the NY Times interview referenced above.  While Suze is busy promoting herself she ends up showing just how truly ignorant she is…

1.)  She has 96% of her (financial investments) tied up in ONE ASSET (SUB) CLASS, that being municipal bonds.

2.)  She is so IGNORANT of basic financial tools and techniques that she fully expects her lesbian life partner to lose 50% of her assets to estate taxes.  She should talk to one of those evil life insurance salesmen that she loves to trash on her show.  Maybe they could help her out!

I agree and it's high time we found a replacement.  Dave Bach needs to appear on Oprah's show more...but only thing he has to offer seems to be real estate advice.  Leveraging a mortgage doesn't seem to be a very conservative approach during retirement years.  Suze is a certified financial planner but apparently Something was remiss in her financial education, obviously.

There's another financial expert who appears on Oprah but she doesn't seem to have the celebrity personality to have her own show yet.

Then again, most of these so called financial experts write several books saying the exact same thing.  Her shows are all repetitive, too.

Time for a better replacement... only Oprah can help.

I'm sure you fa's are all busy and need to get back to your jobs now.

Encourage anyone who wants to use this site to do so and don't be afraid of the bullys.  Refuse to be bullied off the site; however, the moderators have the final word.  Wannabe's try asking questions about the best company to do business with ...and it would seem, this would be the best company to work for, too.

No, she wuz a waitress. Self made and all. No problem with that, it just goes to show they'll give anyone a CFP these days. Maybe ... Joe?

I find it difficult, nearly impossible, to believe that Suze is a CFP certificant.

Well....she is an idiot. She could definitely be a cfp.

Mar 27, 2007 9:31 pm

She could start her own insurance company and dress up as a broker dealer.

That's pretty good logic for the annuity cheese whiz kid.

Good. Try to learn something.  Susie hasn't.  She made that painfully obvious in a recent interview.

By the way, why do we need to have a Susie Orman at all or a replacement for her?  Are you one of those people who live their lives through the prisim of manufactured celebrities?  Did you cut your hair ala Brittany when she changed her look?

sniff..... sniff..... Putsy is that you?

Mar 28, 2007 1:11 am

Suze is absolutely brilliant at what she does.  She gets paid lots of money to give fairly useless general information to lots of people and she doesn’t have to waste precious hours becoming overly knowledgeable.

Mar 28, 2007 1:16 am

Hey everybody lay off Suze, we both have one thing in common, we both like girls!!!

Mar 28, 2007 1:49 am

but, only difference (if you are a guy)... bet your girls aren't still 'virgins'....

Suze is absolutely brilliant at what she does.  She gets paid lots of money to give fairly useless general information to lots of people and she doesn't have to waste precious hours becoming overly knowledgeable.

If she's that bad, then her show would go off the air and no one would buy her books.  See what the rest of you could do who REALLY know something!  Now go get a spot on Oprah and then you can easily replace her.

Mar 28, 2007 2:47 am

Is Suzee?
Is Suzee?
So she says.   I think virginity is a technical term
